DAY 1

1. Your cell phone. Produce it and we'll analyze its assets and discuss your last cell phone use before arriving at seminar.
Nextel, Sprint PCS, Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, Openwave

2. Cell phone applications and design limitations. Audio, camera, video, messaging, browsing, applications, and graphic novels, telejournalism, algorithms for art, mobloging and games. Cell phones are small: how do users enjoy the device? User scenarios and flow diagrams.

3. LBS cell phone. Review locative media including Jabberwocky: Familiar Strangers, historic tour guides, multiplayer games, Flashmobbing - the opera, First Alert, Dodgeball, celebrity watch, fight crime, history/mystery and opera.

4. Coding for LBS. An explanation of xhtml/wap2.0 easy code for LBS content.

5. The design challenge. Create a cell phone story with a location based component.

DAY 2

1. Email (steve at ctlss dot com) link to your opening page 3 hours before meeting.

2. Group critique of each participant's response to the design challenge.

3. Review other methods to write applications with BlueTooth, IrDA, J2ME, Brew for more complex projects.


Requirements: Basic HTML skills on Internet computer.

Useful wireless hardware: WAP2.0 cell phone or wireless PDA
